Language Experience Approach Although not an approach that can be used to develop a complete learning plan, the Language Experience Approach is one which should be kept in mind during all learning activities. It highlights the importance of language to the learning process. It basically teaches he children the following empowering advice:
It also works in reverse, encouraging critical reading skills. The key advantage to this method is the emphasis on the whole language approach, developing not just reading and writing, but also listening and speaking. Learning by focussing on the use of language in this way can be applied across all traditional subject areas, with specific language skills developing almost automatically in the process! Often in the home school, learning to speak, read and write English is not a separate subject, but becomes an integral part of all learning activities in all subject areas. By reading, writing, and participating in a variety of listening and speaking activities when doing art, craft, science, geography, history, and other subjects, you naturally correct and help to develop your children’s language skills.
