Summary Respect children as people first. Treat them as you would your best friends, and that is what they will eventually become. As a home schooling parent you will try many different approaches to educating your children. You may find yourself adapting some of the methods outlined in this section, and evolving your own unique style. It is good to be flexible, maximising the resources you find in the home and community. Examine carefully how other families home school. They may use methods and ideas you can amalgamate into your own programs, even if you differ in philosophies or reasons for home schooling. Try to tap into resources for teachers in schools, as these contain many new ideas and approaches, often reflecting the latest in learning theory and very adaptable for home use. A final word. Keep it simple and workable for you. Discard programs that are not working, either for you or the children. Trying to make the children fit a learning a program is much harder than making the program fit the children!
